April shower's bring...

April shower's bring...

Amazing walleye and pike fishing! Opener is this coming weekend and the river is still cold and high. Great time to troll and cast the flats for toothy pike. Walleyes should be around rocky points and steep drop offs.

The cold weather has delayed the start of the longnose gar season but it won’t be long for the prehistoric beasts. Send us an email ( risingsuncharters@gmail.com) if you are looking at booking a trip.

Season opener!

Season opener!

It is my favorite time of year, boat is back and ready for action. The Ottawa river is still cold and running high. Looks like a week or so to our first launch. Have some availability in May for walleye, pike and trophy longnose gar.

2024 Musky Odyssey

2024 Musky Odyssey

Made the trip to Toronto and shared a booth with Mike ( www.sprattcrafted.ca). The turnout was amazing and it was great speaking to so many musky nuts! Loads of new lures for sale and many great seminars as well. Looking forward to next season! Hope to see some of my Toronto friends on the water this year.

That’s a wrap for the 2024 fishing show season… time to sharpen hooks and get ready for May!

Fall in full swing!

Fall in full swing!

What a crazy few weeks on the water. Water temps are dropping and the fish and biting. We have been doing mostly musky outings and the net has been wet.

Last few weeks of the season are coming up and the fish are bulking up for the spring spawn.

Now booking for the 2023 season!

Now booking for the 2023 season!

Warmer spring will have us on the water a bit earlier this year. We are continuing to monitor water levels on the Ottawa but we should be in for some early trophy longnose gar fishing! May is a perfect time for those who are new to fly fishing as vegetation is not up to the surface like it is in the later summer months. Family fishing trips are also available for walleye, pike, panfish and catfish.

If you are looking to book some memories, give us a call and we can set up the ideal trip for you.

Last call for Gar!

Last call for Gar!

We have one last hot spell in the Ottawa area and the gar have been left alone for a few weeks as many anglers are chasing walleye, bass and of course muskies. If you want to bend a 9wt and get a photo with a prehistoric dino we have limited spots available this week.

Summer report

Summer report

August was a busy month and many toothy critters hit the net! Gar fishing was one of the best seasons ever and musky action has been great over the past few weeks. The best is yet to come with the fish about to start the fall feed.

Summer grind

Summer grind

It has been an amazing summer on the water with many repeat guests. Longnose gar action has been great and angling for these prehistoric beasts should be good for a few more weeks. Musky fishing has been consistent along with bass and walleye. We have had some unstable weather and many storms. Please be careful out on the water and plan ahead.

We are now booking fall fishing adventures if you are looking at netting something on your bucketlist!

Ottawa Fish School report

Ottawa Fish School report

What a first two weeks of Ottawa Fish School! We had 16 kids from 7-11 the first two week and we had lots of action from bluegill, bass, sunfish, catfish and landed a few giant carp.

Looking forward to meeting our new group of anglers this week!

Musky update

Musky update

Early season action has been great on the Rideau, Madawaska and Ottawa rivers. Seeing fish daily and putting some into the net. Jerkbaits ( Livingston Flipper and Jerkmaster) and Bucktails (Musky Factory Baits) have produced most action. We have had some big blow ups starting on topwater baits as well.

A few days remain in late July and we have some weekend dates available in August and the fall. Call or text for more information

Smokey = great walleye fishing!

Smokey = great walleye fishing!

When you think of hot summer walleyes most old timers will tell you do grab bottom bouncers or jig in deep water. The last few weeks we have experienced some different conditions with all the fires to the north. The hazy darker days have produced conditions similar to sunset or sunrise and it has the walleyes all fired up! We have even landed a few on fly rods while targetting muskies in the shallows. New weed growth is key to finding old marble eye!

A few days on the Gouin Reservoir - A great fly-In experience

A few days on the Gouin Reservoir - A great fly-In experience

The fires in Northern Quebec have created smoke all over the eastern side of Canada and the US. Had the pleasure to guide a group up north on the Gouin Reservoir. Walleye and pike was our mission!

Jigging has often been the most productive ways to consistently catch one of the most prized table-fare fish. 1/4 oz for up to 15 feet of water and 3/8 or 1/2 once for deeper presentations. Classic white and chartreuse grubs can help anglers to keep the net wet. There is a slot limit to walleye on the Gouin, so I have found long casting crank baits or trolling rocky points and sand bars a great way to land larger fish. Livingston lures EBS Walleye 111 – Livingston Lures was super productive on our last trip! Classic minnow baits will also do the trick. Match the hatch for colors- silver and different natural patterns.

Thanks to the amazing people at Air Mont Laurier for an amazing trip! We will be back.
